I’ve been wanting to tell you about this little gem of a coffee shop for a while now. Coffee Architects, in Royal Leamington Spa, is definitely my kind of coffee shop.
From the interiors and atmosphere, to the food and cakes they have everything to make you return to try it all. Then repeat all over again.
This independent family run coffee shop has not long celebrated its first anniversary. Set up by Sam she wanted to open a new style coffee shop, in her home town, which offered a different taste experience. The goal was to create a food and social haven where anyone can eat and enjoy balanced food and treats at the same time. It’s now a firm favourite with people who eat healthy as well as for those whom calories don’t count (if only!).
Interiors are rustic industrial with exposed brick work and dark grey paint. There’s oak bench tables with plastic school chairs and wooden stools.
There’s also a lovely little courtyard garden which is both sunny and shady.
The menu varies daily with breakfast options as well as lunches including gourmet sandwiches, salads, flat bread pizzas and hot meals. On the weekends there’s also a brunch menu with favourites including French toast, eggs benedict, porridge, and waffles. Then there’s the cake, oh boy is there cake. The selection is amazing, I’ve not seen so many flavours in one place. Cakes slices are huge and are served with the number of forks requested for sharing or not as the case may be. For those who want to be naughty but without the calories, there’s skinny treats.
My latest visit was on a warm sunny autumn Sunday, a few weeks ago. Whilst I pursued the brunch menu, and checked out the daily lunch specials, I enjoyed a latte made with Coffee Architects own brand of coffee.
Having previously tried the salad plate, this time I opted for the chicken super food salad, with advacado, pulses, kale, pistachios, walnuts, topped with homemade raspberry sauce and decorated with a few raspberries. This is one of the most delicious salads I have tasted. All of the flavour combinations worked and the addition of the raspberry sauce and raspberries just topped it of beautifully. I think I may have to try and re-create this at home.
I’d heard about their skinny brownies and was keen to try one. Having just had a salad this was not the day for indulging in a large piece of cake. However, on a previous visit, shared a piece of blueberry sponge. My raspberry chocolate brownie came warm with a spoonful of quark and raspberries. It was a perfect light chocolate option which felt indulgent.
Whilst some may not like how busy it gets, to me it shows just what a winning combination they have. Being able to go out with a group of friends and no matter what your dietary requirements, all able to find and enjoy a meal or treat. Even at the busiest of times I’ve found the service timely and the staff are always smiling and friendly.
On my next visit I’ll definitely need to indulge in a piece of cake…..obviously so I can update the post to show you how indulgent they are. Who said research was hard work?!
