An Irish themed party

Do you have to go to Ireland to enjoy the Irish spirit?

This weekend saw my family and I celebrating one of my cousin's big birthdays.  I started helping her plan the party back in the autumn and we had gone through a number of variants before we settled on a garden party with an Irish theme.  I'd offered up a number of options for themes including kitsch flowers (Cath Kidston style), English country garden (gingham), red, white and blue (Jubilee), but is was an Irish theme that was settled on due to our heritage.

As the requirements for the party started to change, I pulled in LBA to assist me with the party planning.  We had great fun finding Irish themed decorations to adorn the garden and even brought some Shamrock boppers - how glamorous!

Once we'd organised these and things seemed to be under control, my thoughts turned to my outfit.  I knew I was going to be wearing my Mulberry Shamrock pin, which I absolutely adore.  I knew I also wanted to wear the colours of the Irish flag and whilst not in the right order, I found a pair of green skinnies and white T-shirt to go with my mustard shoes.

As Saturday arrived we were all so thankful that the sun shone and we had a dry and relatively warm day.  We definitely had the luck of the Irish with us!  With the Pimms and Guinness flowing and guests arriving, the party just needed one more thing to really cement the Irish theme.

The fiddler band were fabulous and played for over three hours.  There were no shortages of people dancing, including SBA who showed us that she still knew her Irish dancing steps.

As day grew into night, we lit the chimineas and as people started to leave, a small group of us continued to talk into the early hours.  We sure do know how to party!
